Previously known as Pathanamthitta District Educational and Charitable Society, Mother Theresa Educational and Charitable Society was founded in 1997 and registered under Societies Registration Act, Government of Kerala, India with the basic intention to provide practical and emotional support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness.
The society also concentrates on the cruel life situations of Indian children who were born with HIV who are often completely ostracized by the society because of their infection. Such children are often doomed to lead a life without future. MTECS conducts awareness campaigns in universities and schools against ostracism of such kids.
We purchase HIV medicine directly from manufactures and distribute them among the people in need and cannot afford it. We also make short films with the help of the Kerala Government as part of the awareness campaign. And in our pursuit to set up medical camps in rural areas, we intend to set up a Pain and Palliative Care Centre in the Pathanamthitta district by 2008.
